Best Search For The Needle Classes — Ranked Tier List
Which Search For The Needle class to keep and which to reroll: our ranked tier list, from Ultimate Farmer down to Starter rolls.
Every class roll in Search For The Needle asks the same question: keep this, or spend 40 more Gems? This tier list answers it. The short version: Ultimate Farmer is the dream, Drone Specialist is the realistic target, and everything Starter-tier should be rerolled the moment your Gem balance can take it.

What is the best class in Search For The Needle?
Ultimate Farmer, the table’s ceiling, at roughly a 0.1% roll rate. It is the strongest class in the game by a wide margin — but at one in a thousand spins, it is something you receive, not something you plan for. The class you actually aim for is Drone Specialist: rare enough to feel earned, common enough to reach in a normal reroll session, and the roll most speedrun-minded players settle on.
Our ranked tiers:
- S — Ultimate Farmer. The table’s top. If it lands, you are done rerolling, full stop.
- A — Drone Specialist. The community’s favorite target. Transforms the searching game; see below.
- B — Strong mid-tier rolls. Genuine upgrades over Starter. Keep while saving Gems for a reroll push.
- C — Light mid-tier rolls. Marginal gains. Reroll when convenient.
- D — Starter. The ~40% floor of the table. Always reroll once Gems allow.
Why is Drone Specialist rated so highly?
Drone Specialist earns its A-tier by changing how you search, not just how fast: it empowers the drone side of your toolkit — the top of the tool ladder — which is where the game’s efficiency lives anyway. The result is a class whose value grows as your account grows: weak next to a Hand, excellent next to a Hay Drone. Since most players reroll classes long before they finish the tool ladder, the roll that scales is the roll to keep.
That scaling is also why the tier list reads differently depending on where you are: early on, any B-tier beats a D-tier by miles; late game, the gap between A and S is the only one left that matters.
When should I stop rerolling?
Stop when the expected gain no longer pays for the spins. Practical breakpoints:
- Landed Drone Specialist or better — stop. Bank Gems for tools and pets instead.
- Sitting on a B-tier with under 200 Gems — stop for now; rerolling into S-tier from B averages a brutal number of spins at 0.1% odds.
- Sitting on Starter with any Gems at all — keep rolling. Starter is the one tier where every spin is expected value.
Codes make the early rerolls nearly free: the codes page lists five-plus active codes worth 800+ combined Gems — twenty spins’ worth. Redeem, reroll in bursts, and stop at A.
Does the best class change by game mode?
Less than you would think. Needle-hunting speedruns, chapter progression and collectible sweeps all run on the same engine — clearing hay quickly — so one ranking serves them all. The only nuance: pure speedrun chasers value the top two tiers more aggressively (every second on the timer counts), while story-mode players can comfortably finish every chapter on a B-tier roll. The speedrun guide covers the timer side; the class list covers the system mechanics this list assumes.
Tier placements reflect the state of the game as of October 3, 2026 — new classes and rebalances ship with updates, and we re-rank when they do.
